Our videos page includes readings of John Clare’s poems by well-known actors, including Richard Burton, Toby Jones, Patrick Stewart, Michael Sheen and Tom Hiddleston. In addition, you can watch Ronald Blyth, the John Clare Society’s first President and author of Akenfield, discuss his attachment to the poet, and watch a panel discussion about musical settings of John Clare’s poetry recorded on the two hundredth anniversary of the publication of his first  book Poems Descriptive of Rural Life and Scenery.

John Clare has been the subject of Melvyn Bragg’s In Our Time, an episode of Omnibus, and as the subject of a BBC Radio 4 Great Lives broadcast featuring the poet Wendy Cope. You can listen to these, and to Ted Hughes’ reading of John Clare’s ‘Nightingales Nest’ at Westminster Abbey during the ceremony in which Clare’s plaque was unveiled in Poets’ Corner.
