New website for the Society

Welcome to the new website of the John Clare Society. Whether you are just discovering the poetry of John Clare or are an established expert in the field, we hope you will find much here of value and interest.

The new site includes everything you would have found on the old one and much more besides. Among the resources carried over, we can give you access to:

  • Copies of the John Clare Society Journal as far back as issue number one, published in 1982. Click here
  • Details of the John Clare Festival held every year in July. Click here
  • Information on our Ronald Blythe Fellowship, which offers bursaries of up to £1,000. Click here

Additionally, our new website includes

  • Every copy of our three-time-a-year members newsletter published since 2012. Click here
  • A chronology of major events that took place during John Clare’s life. Click here
  • A reading guide to introductory texts and biographical works. Click here
  • An introduction to the places where John Clare spent his life, including the villages of Helpston and Northborough, and the asylums at High Beach and Northampton. Click here

You may also enjoy reading the books in the John Clare Society online library, watching the videos and listening to the audio recordings in our media section, and browsing the books and other materials in our bookshop.

We will, of course, also continue to bring you news from the Society and the world of John Clare studies. And if you are not already a member of the John Clare Society, we would invite you to join us.
